What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
At approximately 10:30 EDT on 08/08/2025 aircraft privacy data omittedwas being used to conduct a check ride at hwo. After two landings and take-offs a pilot from another aircraft relayed that the right landing gear was down. The pilots recycled the landing gear three times with no abnormal indications in the cockpit or vibrations. Soon after touchdown on runway 10R, the right wing started to dip, and the pilot shut down the right engine. Approximately 1000 feet after the wing dipped the right propeller struck the runway and right landing gear collapsed. The right propeller struck the runway just prior to scrape marks from the collapsed landing gear. The right side of the aircraft slid on the right landing gear and the step for approximately 500 feet and came to rest halfway off the runway.
The forward trunnion on right landing gear was broken horizontally on both sides of the center hole. The lower half of the hole was broken from the retaining ring out. The landing gear forward swing retainer tube, bolt, and bushing were attached to the landing gear. The landing gear aft swing was damaged from sliding on the runway surface and was not identifiable as to the condition. There was minor damage to the wheel well near the landing gear’s top position, consistent with a hard landing. The trailing edge of the right flap was damaged from the tire, and the step was broken at the mount due to the landing gear collapsing. The tire had a bald spot and hole from dragging on the runway after the collapse.
Maintenance records showed non-destructive testing inspection was performed on the right landing gear and trunnions approximately 80 hours prior to this incident.
