From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
Narrative: delta flight #152, L-1011, departed slc on 01-18-96, reported engine vibration. CFR equipment called out at 1840Z. Delta flight #152 landed slc without incident at 1859Z. The pilots were met at the aircraft. PIC darl lewis henderson. The aircraft log books were reviewed for trends on vibration discrepancies. No trends noted on logbooks aboard aircraft other than the item noted on 01-05-96, on delta log page 2489058. On 01-05-96, item 2, all 3 engines' fan blades were lubed. After the above mentioned incident, the following was written up on delta log page 2489098 on 01-18-96, item 2: "the #3 engine vibration meter on the fe panel exceeded 2.5 in both the a & b modes on takeoff roll. Could not exceed 80% N1 in flight without vibration reaching 2.5. Medium pickup was giving the highest indication." Delta maintenance was contacted. The #3 engine was removed and replaced. Delta maintenance believed the malfunction to be caused by cold weather starting. This is a final report.
