From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: flap position gage indicated a trailing edge flap lock-out condition on united air lines flight UAL393, inbound from ord to mci 09/June/1996. Not sure if the flaps moved or whether there was an indicator problem the crew notified ATC at mci and was cleared to land. After landing safely with minimal braking, fixed base operator (twa) maintenance was dispatched and an inoperative flap position indicator was discovered and replaced. A successful operational check was performed on the indicator, and both primary and secondary flap systems. The aircraft was released from maintenance and returned to service. This incident is considered closed with this report. CE96ICM0079.
