From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: approx. two minutes following take off smoke filled the aircraft cabin and cockpit. The crew donned smoke masks, declared an emergency, and returned with no further problems. The third crewman, who was deadheading to kenai, AK investigated and found the aircraft cargo wench battery cable had shorted to the battery box and caused the smoke. He was able to secure the cable away from the box and stopped the smoke before landing. Following landing, the wench power system was inspected and secured. A service difficulty report was generated. The company plans to remove the wench system when time is available as it is no longer used.
