From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Narrative: a/c returned to slc with smoke in the cockpit. It was later learned that there was no smoke in the cockpit, but just the smell of a bird that the aircraft hit on takeoff. The bird impacted the upper left corner of #2 engine cowling. Part of the bird was ingested into the engine. The damage to the cowling was minimal. Contract maintenance was called (delta airlines) the maintenance personnel were required to replace one of the acoustic panel's just aft of the fan section. After the panel was replaced the aircraft was returned to service. This is a final report.
