From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-5) On September 2, 1998, Mr. Earl I. Covel operated Cessna 150, N23471, as pilot in command on a flight from mena intermountain airport at mena, Arkansas, to Columbia Regional Airport, Columbia, Missouri. At approximately 1345 CDT, Mr. Covel exhausted the aircraft fuel supply and performed an emergency landing on a field less than one mile southwest of the Columbia airport. There were no injuries or damage to the aircraft. An investigation concluded that there was insufficent evidence to substantiate a violation of the federal aviation regulations (FAR) for fuel exhaustion. However, it was discovered that Mr. Covel has not complied with the flight review requirements, prior to acting as pilot in command, since may, 1997. privacy data omitted
