From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Pilots reported after performing a steep turn to the left they heard a bang and then lost control of the rudder. The aircraft landed safely at dvt. Upon inspection found that the rudder control gears had skipped a tooth causing the rudder to be out of rig. The cause of the gear disengage was determined to be caused by elongation of the left and right outboard rudder torque tube bearing block holes. This condition allowed the torque tube to shift forward when excessive force was applied to the rudder pedals. The bulkheads that the torque tube blocks are attached were reinforced to prevent further elongation.

As the FAA filed it
