From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
(-23) Aircraft arrived at Eagle from scottsdale AZ, and was making approach to runway 25. On short final, with flaps extended, the pilot added throttle to slow his sink rate when he had no response from the engine. He made the runway with a hard landing on the mains and the nose gear partially collapsed but the nose wheel kept turning and kept the aircraft from scraping the bottom of fuselage. The prop struck the runway. The only damage is to the nose wheel, propeller and engine. The engine has been sent out for overhaul and to determine the loss of power. Talked to mechanic at FBO, he said there was no structural damage. Also the aircraft did have fuel. This aircraft had an engine failure in 2002 which turned out to be a broken crankshaft. Aircraft landed on a road, no damage, no injuries. Pilot will send us a copy of the engine teardown report.
