(-23) On may 14, 2009, at 7:30 CDT, the pilot was cleared to taxi 17R via taxiway charlie from the tie-down ramp at abilene aero. While still on taxiway charlie, a parallel taxiway to 17R, and approaching charlie - 4, he unexpectedly came upon a hold short bar for a runway. He firmly applied the brakes at the hold short bar. He stated he had reviewed an airport diagram but did not assume there was a hold short for runway 22 as it does not intersect with runway 17R or taxiway charlie. Due to the rapid application of the brakes, in combination with a strong quartering tailwind, the aircraft pitched forward damageing the propeller and muffler. The damage to the aircraft was minor. The pilot, the only occupant on board, received no injuries.
