From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

All preflight checks, engine start & ground run-ups conducted were normal. 12 seconds after takeoff: #1 tach went to 3500 RPM, #1 map dropped to 42". Oil PSI, fuel PSI, CHT & oil temp all remained normal. 60 seconds after take-off: oil PSI went to 0, #1 map dropped to 30". The pilots attempted to feather & shutdown the #1 propeller & engine, and landed the aircraft on runway 26L. The propeller did not feather. 10 bolts that secure the stationary reduction gear to the carnkcase front section flange sheared. The #1 propeller could be turned by hand with little effort. Broken pieces of metal and gears were found in the engine oil sump. A partial engine teardown was performed, revealing substantial damage within the engine. Two piston connecting rods were found broken and multiple gears within the reduction case were broken into small metallic chuncks. SDR has been submitted by owner.
