From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

This student pilot departed the Ellenville airport after a "practical test" discontinuance. She departed southwest on runway 22, and made a left turn to avoid overflying a school just beyond the airport boundry (there is an established procdure for this). She apparently decided to climb up through what looked like a pass (to clear a 2000' AGL ridge), however she was unable to out climb the raising terrain. When she realized a crash was imminent, she stalled the airplane and fell into the trees.

As the FAA filed it
