From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
While performing agricultural spray operations five miles west of stacyville, IA. The pilot failed to maintain sufficient rotor prm to arrest his descent from a 180 turn maneuver at the end of the field. As he re-entered the field, the pilot used the remaining RPM to land. The result was a hard causing substantial damage to the helicopter. The helicopter landed in the corn field with enough force that the main rotor blade contacted the tail boom and seperated the tail rotor section from the helicopter.
