From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The PIC was conducting a charity flight with a minor passenger in an experimental amateur built aircraft with fixed main gear and a retractable nose gear. While on final approach to runway 18 at kane, the aircraft landed short of the runway by approximately 133 feet with the nose gear retracted. The aircraft came to rest approximately 875 feet down the runway. The PIC said the nose gear was lowered upon entering the kane class d airspace. While on final, the PIC was instructed by tower to fly west for spacing and then was given instructions to continue back to the east to rejoin final for runway 18. The PIC said the gear was left in the down position. The PIC stated that he slowed to 90 KTS on final and saw red over white on the PAPI the entire approach. The PIC stated at approximately 50 feet AGL, the aircraft dropped and he attempted a go around and pulled full back on the stick. The PIC did not check airspeed inside of ½ mile final, just looked outside. The weather at the time of the event was reported to be 13010G18KT 10SM SCT120 05/M01 A3028. The stall speed is 65 KTS on this aircraft. The PIC did not account for wind gust while on approach. Examination of the scene and aircraft showed signs of the “nose gear puck” scraping in the grass and on the pavement. There are no signs that the gear was down. The nose gear jack screw did not have free travel without electrical power. Minor damage. No injuries
