From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
(-23) Aircraft was performing phase I of the operations limitations. This was the first flight of the aircraft. After take-off from runway 27 at ane, the aircraft entered the airport traffic pattern for runway 27. Halfway into the downwind leg, the engine RPM dropped from 2550 to approximately 1700-2000 RPM. Pilot tried to clear the engine, RPM would not go above 2000 RPM. Pilot declared an emergency and landed on runway 27. Due to the nature of the first flight, the pilot landed fast and ran off the end of the runway. The spindly nose gear collapsed at that time. No injury to pilot, minor damage to aircraft.
