(-23) Cape air, CE-402-C, landed Nantucket ma, runway 24, with a gouge in the left propeller (one blade two places), a hole in the pilot side window, and a damaged windshield at 1615 EST, 01/10/02. No injuries to pilot or one passenger. The pilot was william Mr. Field, and the passenger was gillel bridier. At first it appeared to be some kind of projectile had contacted on e blade of the left propeller (in two spots), bouncing off hitting the windshield and side window. The pilot's side window had a round hole approximately two inches in diameter. Pieces of plexiglass did penetrate the cabin, but no projectile was ever found in the cabin, only pieces of plexiglas. The barnstable crime scene services section of the state police (bourne ma) inspected for any type of bullet, no evidence was found. Tests were conducted for presence of lead, copper, and nitrated compounds, none were found. The crime lab formed three scenarios, first it could have been a part from the engine that hit the prop and then hit the window, but no parts were missing from the engine or propeller area. The second scenario was a passing aircraft at a high altitude could have dropped something, or third space junk. No evidence of the projectile was ever found. The side window and windshield were replaced. The prop was burnished out and was found to be within limits.
