What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
(-23) The pilot states: he approached the airport too close on the downwind for landing and from a higher than normal altitude and airspeed. The aircraft hit the runway and bounced an estimated 8' or 9'. On the second touchdown, the aircraft's nose wheel hit the runway collapsing the nose gear. An engine fuel line was then ruptured and a fire started, burning the aircraft. The pilot stated that he did not properly plan for the effect that the density altitude would have on the landing.
