From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
Narrative: subject; unscheduled landing of flight AMW5727 after departing Kansas City International Airport, (mci) enroute to des moines airport, (dsm). An emergency was not declared and the flight landed without further incident. Findings; during climb out, from mci at 18:21 CST on 14 November 1997, an air midwest pilot reported that fuel flow fluctuated 50 to 100 pounds with a simultaneous torque fluctuation of 100 to 200 foot pounds on the right engine. The pilot returned to mci, on both engines, however maintenance could not repeat the problem during ground engine runs. A test flight caused a repeat of the engine malfunction and maintenance determined that the fuel control required replacement. Upon completion of the fuel control replacement the aircraft was returned to service with a satisfactory ground and flight test. Conclusion; with this report, incident CE98IGO0015 is considered closed.
